This week, we are redefining beauty through… Posture!
As a chiropractor, this is always an attractive topic for me. So many of us sit at desks for hours a day, week after week. Or drive delivery or Uber, or take care of tiny humans and are constantly bending forward. And we TRY to take breaks, we WANT to treat our spines with love and respect but life gets to be a lot sometimes. I totally get it. But this week, we will learn some easy and delightful solutions to any of your posture problems.
But first, how exactly does posture relate to beauty? Pick someone or something that you would define as “beautiful”. Woman, man, dog, even a tree you may particularly enjoy looking at whenever you pass by. Now there’s always a chance I’m wrong, but I would be pretty certain in saying that whatever image you have in your head, not only illustrates the beauty, but exudes confidence and strength as well.
A 2009 study (Breñol, Petty, Wagner, 2009 Body Posture on self-evaluation: a self-validation approach Click Here took a group of people and had them write whatever thoughts came to their minds, some thoughts in a “confident posture” and some in a “doubtful” posture. While the posture didn’t change the quantity or type of thoughts, there was a significant difference in the amount of confidence reported in thoughts written down in the “confident” posture.
When you’re sitting upright, you are allowing your body to function so much more smoothly.
- There is no unnecessary strain placed on the low back or neck, reducing pain; even pain as
severe as sciatica and migraines! - The WHOLE core is engaged, giving more movement to the diaphragm and allowing you to
breathe deeper. Decreasing stress and promoting better circulation through the body. - More oxygen increases vitality and decreases fatigue
So join throughout this week and learn more about the upper and lower cross syndrome, how to correct it,
and how your breath can help prevent these habits from returning. See you soon!
